Jesus’ 70 Witnesses

Using Bullinger’s King James Version Companion bible (Kregel)

In Genesis 10, we see the total number of Noah’s Son’s offspring (generations) to be 70. We also see in Genesis 11 that Nimrod’s rule is going against God’s will.

An interesting event occurred during Christ’s ministry here on Earth. He
assigned 70 witnesses, grouped by 2, to go out into the cities that he
wished to visit himself.

Luke [10:1] “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place, whither He Himself would come.”

[ed: Note how the dispatched 70 are grouped by 2’s – like being 2 witnesses to go where Jesus was wanting to visit himself. Each of the 35 groups of 2 did as instructed and then returned as documented in verse [10:17].]

Luke [10:2] Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

Luke [10:3] Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

[ed: Luke [10:4,16] provide a list of commands from Jesus to these 70 witnesses who will travel and teach of our heavenly Father’s word. There are instructions of how to be present yourself unto other people, how to be humble and reach out to those who accept you, while also being mature in your approach to simply “turn the other cheek” if necessary and walk away if your teachings are not received, or others come up against you because of you teaching about Father.]

Luke [10:17] And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even
the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Luke [10:18] And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Luke [10:19] Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Luke [10:20] Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Luke [10:21] In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

Luke [10:22] “All these are delivered to Me of My Father: and no man knoweth Who the Son is, but the Father; and Who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.”

Luke [10:23] “And He turned Him unto His disciples, and said privately,
“Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:”

Luke [10:24] “For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.”

[ed: Jesus answered that these other non-disciples who work on behalf of God and are not against God’s efforts, are in fact with God. Also note this other verse which is saying the very same thing with the reverse wording:]

Luke [11:23] “He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.”

Luke [11:24] “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, `I will return unto my house whence I came out.’ “

Luke [11:25] “And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.”

Luke [11:26] “Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

Luke [11:27 ]”And it came to pass, as He spake these things, and certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto Him, “Blessed is the womb that bare Thee, and the paps which Thou hast sucked.”

Luke [11:28] “But He said, “Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

Luke [11:29] “And when the people were gathered thick together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.”

Luke [11:30] “For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.”

Luke [12:8] “Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess Me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:”

Luke [12:9] “But he that denieth Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.”

Luke [12:10] “And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: But unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost [Spirit] it shall not be forgiven.”

Luke [12:11] “And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:”

Luke [12:12] “For the Holy Ghost [Spirit] shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.”

Mark [13:9] “But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for My sake,, for a testimony against them.”

Mark [13:10] “And the gospel must first be published among all nations.”

Mark [13:11] “But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost [Spirit].”

Mark [13:13] “And ye shall be hated of all men for My name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”

[ed: During the time Jesus was on Earth and just before he approached Jerusalem, He was asked by the disciple John if they should prevent other non-disciples who were using authority of the very name of Y’shua to remove devils.]

Luke [9:1] “Then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.”

[ed: Power over both diseases and also the demons that afflict people.]

Luke [9:49] And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

Luke [9:50] And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

[ed: The verse above is the compliment of the verse below.
Those not against Jesus were to be considered as with Him, and
those not with Him were to be considered as against Him.

Luke [11:23] “He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.”
